All About Me

Hello! My name is Joanna Hiller and I am very excited to continue my teaching career in grade 3 at Sarah Thompson School.  I was born and raised in Calgary. I was recruited to play basketball at Mount Royal University where I received a Bachelor of Arts Degree majoring in Anthropology. I took the after degree program at the University of Calgary and specialized in Elementary Language Arts. I am very passionate about physical activity, art and children’s literature. This year I will be dedicated in acting as a co-learner with my students, demonstrating the meaning of life long learning, while having my students at the center of my decision-making.

Outside of the school, I love spending time with my family and friends. I have an older brother who I am very close with. He has two dogs and I consider them my little fur nephews! I travel every summer to Prince Edward Island visiting my extended family. I enjoy camping, playing sports and watching hockey! Go Flames!

Teamwork and collaboration will both be key characteristics that my students will gain throughout the year. They will learn to value not only themselves but each other, respecting culture and diversity, in developing a strong sense of classroom community. Students will see a connection between learning that takes place inside as well as outside the classroom. I know that with my love for teaching and my commitment to this profession, I will do everything I can do help my students exceed their potential. I look forward to working with you and your child this school year!
